There are plenty of inspirational outlets for food – here are just a few examples that you might happen across in your travels:

Earthshare is a Community Supported Agriculture project in Forres

Earthy – shop and café in Edinburgh featuring local and organic food & gifts

The Highlands and Islands Local Food Network is a group of producers, retailers and consumers acting together to make local food more available.

Larder Bytes is a local food supply network, allowing online ordering of local products – not all areas in Scotland are covered yet, but you can register  your interest

Taste Local is the Skye & Localsh local food group, including local food awards and a local food delivery van

Valleyfield House in Pennicuik hosts weekly farmers’ markets, staffed by volunteers and with produce sold at cost price

Whitmuir Organics is a Soil Association registered farm, with farm shop and café housed in a new green building, and an interesting membership scheme, near West Linton in the Borders

In London, Growing Communities produces their own salad bags (grown in Hackney), runs a veg box scheme with prices from £6, runs an organic / biodynamic farmers’ market, has organised Good Food Swap events, are building up a ‘patchwork farm’ combining many small plots of land, has an interesting food zone map, has been financially self-supporting since 2005 and are keen to share their business model with other community groups.
